HAL AMCA

The HAL AMCA (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited – Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft) is a Hindustan (India) single-seat, twin-engine, 5th-generation stealth multirole fighter being developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited with Russian assistance (Sukhoi OKB).It will be designed in two versions; for Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. The main purpose of AMCA is to replace the old SEPECAT Jaguar and Soviet MiG-27.

The AMCA will be originally intended to serve as an stealth multirole fighter. The only one prototype was built. It is based on Indian HAL Tejas and the Russian Sukhoi/HAL FGFA and Sukhoi Su-30MKI. First flight of the AMCA aircraft is not excepted until 2017. Maximum speed will be over Mach 2 (2,500 km) and range 3,500 km (2,040 mi). It will be designed with a very small radar cross-section, will also feature serpentine shaped air-intakes, internal weapons like American F-22 Raptor stealth fighter, and will have a two Kaveri engine (next generation) with power of 75kN afterburner each.

It will have three internal weapons bays on the bottom and sides of the fuselage and also the wings include four hardpoints. Carrying missiles and bombs internally maintains its stealth capability and maintains lower drag resulting in higher top speeds and longer combat ranges. The aircraft will also features 3D thrust vectoring capability. Thrust is controlled by the use of 3 paddles on each engine nozzle. The nozzles on the first prototype appear to be uncovered and might have a slight adverse effect on the AMCAs stealth characteristics.

AMCA will have the ability to supercruise, be outfitted with the next generation of air-to-air, air-to-surface and air-to-ship missiles. The success of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft depends on how well the HAL Tejas Mk II Fighter program goes. If the HAL completes the Tejas Mk II project on hand in time, some components going on to the Tejas Mk II can be used on the AMCA. But if new generation of GTRE GTX 35 VS Kaveri engine is complete, more than 50% of the AMCA is complete.
